If you are interested in becoming an Apprentice in the glazing trade, you must apply in person at the Apprenticeship office.  Upon showing proof of meeting the minimum qualifications, you will be placed on a list of eligible candidates.  Applicants will be called on a first in first out basis.  To remain on this list you must check in at the Apprenticeship office on the FIRST of each month.  If you fail to check in as noted, you will be removed from the list.

Many apprentices who are now working in the trade have served in some other capacity for some time before becoming an indentured apprentice.  Some of our glass contractors hire production workers, truck drivers or warehousemen.  This gives the applicant a chance to become familiar with the glass industry and its surroundings.  This also gives the employer a chance to become acquainted with the individual and his or her work habits.  This has proven to be very beneficial to all parties concerned.

Apprentice glaziers learn the preparation and installation of various types of glass, metal framing systems, entrances, mirrors and glass substitutes in and on commercial and residential buildings.  They work with other trades on the job in new construction and remodeling and repair.  They may work at varying heights on staging or on ladders.  Some heavy lifting is required to load and unload or install glass and metal.

Some shop work such as glass cutting and metal prefabrication is done.

Apprentices will learn the safe use and handling of hand and power tools,  equipment such as: ladders, scaffolding and swing staging.  Hand tools are supplied by the workers and power tools are supplied by the employer.  Some of the power tools include: chop saws, drills, roto-hammers, belt sanders, etc.

Apprentices will learn how to prepare surfaces and apply sealants properly.

Apprentices will learn the various types of hardware used on entrance doors, such as door locks, latches, hinges and closing devices.

Apprentices will acquire a Washington State approved First-aid and C.P.R. card as part of their training.

GOOD BASIC MATH SKILLS ARE A MUST!!!
